South Carolina Falls Short to No. 5 Georgia

BISHOP, Ga. — South Carolina (0-6, 0-3 SEC) fell to No. 5 Georgia (3-2, 1-2 SEC) on Saturday in a 14-4 decision. The SEC matchup was South Carolina’s final meet of the fall season.

In fences, junior Madeline Schaefer brought in the lone point for the Gamecocks. She scored an 84 on Eli, earning the highest score for South Carolina in the event and bringing her season record to 2-1-0. The Bulldogs took fences 4-1. 

In horsemanship, South Carolina earned one point. Senior Alexa Thorpe notched the top score for the Gamecocks with a 73.5 on Garth. Thorpe earned her second consecutive win in the event and brought her overall record to 2-3-1.

At the half, Georgia led South Carolina 8-2. 

On the flat, the NCEA and SEC Rider of the Month Trinity Hammerschmidt brought in the third point for South Carolina with a 75.

Also on the flat, Sophie Mitchell and Swank scored a 76. Mitchell was tied by her opponent and no point was awarded. At the close of the event, Georgia took the flat 3-1.

In reining, Sloane Vogt scored a 70 on Slash to tie her opponent. Soon after, SEC Co-Rider of the Month Emma Lane scored a 69.5 to take the final point of the meet. Georgia took the event 3-1 and ultimately topped South Carolina 14-3.

South Carolina will be back in action in the spring after the winter break. The Gamecocks are set to take on SEC rival Auburn at One Wood Farm on Sat., Feb. 5 at 10 a.m.
