Chang and Eskew Named to CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team

AUSTIN, Texas – South Carolina graduate student’s Lauren Change and Sarah Eskew were named to the Academic All-America® Women’s Soccer Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Chang was named to the second team, while Eskew earned third team honors. It’s only the third time in program history the Gamecocks have earned multiple Academic All-America® honors (2014 and 2016). South Carolina was one of only three Division I programs to have multiple players selected.

Lauren Chang becomes the second player in program history (Blakely Mattern, 2008-09) to earn multiple Academic All-America® honors after being named to the second team last year. She is pursuing a graduate degree in business administration after earning her undergrad in political science with a 3.93 GPA. The midfielder led the team with 10 assists on the season, which was 25th in the country. Chang finished her career with 106 games played, seventh all-time in NCAA Division I history.

Eskew holds a 4.0 GPA in her graduate course work for global health after earning her undergraduate degree in public health also with a 4.0. As a defender, she played in 17 matches, starting 12 of those to begin the season until suffering an injury that sidelined her for almost a month. She helped the team earn six shutouts in matches she’s played in, including three in the NCAA Tournament.

The Gamecocks finished the season 14-7-1, reaching the Elite Eight for the fifth time in the last eight seasons. They ended the year ranked 10th in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
