Gamecocks Earn Midweek Win Over Winthrop

Carolina now finished six games via run-rule

COLUMBIA, S.C. — No. 17 South Carolina softball scored six runs in the second and four in the third on its way to a commanding 10-1 victory via run-rule in five innings Wednesday night at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. Mackenzie Boesel led the way at the plate with a 2-for-3 night with three RBI.

Of Carolina’s nine wins this season, six have finished as run-rule victories.

South Carolina (9-2, 0-0 SEC) posted six runs in the bottom of the second, all with two outs. Chooch Carroll started the scoring with a bases loaded walk to score Carlie Henderson. The next at-bat, Boesel doubled to left field to score three runs and pushed the Gamecock lead to 4-0.

Kenzi Maguire took the next Winthrop (7-6, 0-0 Big South) pitch thrown and blasted it over the wall in centerfield for her first home run of the season to extend the Carolina advantage to 6-0 through the first two innings of play.

A Zoe Laneaux triple and Kylee Gleason single, coupled with Riley Blampied putting the ball in play, led to four more Carolina runs in the third inning to make it a 10-0 South Carolina lead through three innings.

The Eagles’ lone run of the night came with a two-out single in the fifth, but it wasn’t enough as Kelsey Oh (1-1) earned the complete-game win in the circle.

Oh finished the night with just five hits allowed and five strikeouts in 94 pitches.

Carolina produced 10 hits and eight RBI with four walks.
