Amihere, Carter Named to SEC Basketball Leadership Council

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina juniors Laeticia Amihere and Chico Carter Jr. represented the Gamecocks at the SEC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Leadership Council annual meeting on Sept. 16, conducting the gathering this year in a virtual format. Following the event, the groups selected chairs and vice chairs for each sport with Amihere being named chair of the women’s basketball leadership group.
 
Amihere is in her second year as part of the council. As the chair, she will participate in various meetings throughout the year to provide feedback to Athletics Directors, Senior Woman Administrators and Faculty Athletics Representatives.  She and vice chair Mikayla Coombs (Georgia) will also engage with Conference leadership on legislative proposals during the SEC Spring meetings.
 
The council consists of one male and one female representative from each of the SEC’s 14 institutions. The goal of the leadership council is for student-athletes to serve as a conduit of communication from their teams to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience and student-athlete wellness, and to provide feedback on proposed rules governing the SEC and NCAA.
 
The Men’s Basketball Leadership Council and the Women’s Basketball Leadership Council comprise two components of the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council. The third component is the Football Leadership Council, which meets in January.
