Annan Adds Tam McGowan to Coaching Staff

Tam McGowan rounds out the inaugural coaching staff under Tony Annan

COLUMBIA, S.C. —- South Carolina men’s soccer head coach Tony Annan has named Tam McGowan as the newest assistant coach to join his staff, Annan announced Monday.

McGowan spent the previous six seasons at College of Charleston as an assistant coach after spending his first year in a volunteer capacity.

He joins Annan alongside assistant coaches Alec Purdie and Will Lukowski to round out the 2021 coaching staff.

“It’s obviously a huge bonus for us to have someone with Tam’s knowledge and background on our staff,” Annan said. “He’ll obviously help us immensely in training and in games. He’s another great soccer person to help us lift the program.”

Prior to his coaching tenor, McGowan captained the Cougars in 2013. He started all 18 matches for the squad and helped the Cougars transition into their first season in the Colonial Athletic Association by being named a second-team All-CAA selection and was voted the team’s Most Valuable Player.

During the 2012 season, McGowan’s first at The College, he started all 19 matches and logged 1653 minutes (87 minutes per game) as a central defender in the Cougar backline.

Before his time as a Cougar, he notably captained the Cloud County Community College soccer team for two seasons, leading them to the 2011 National Junior College National Championship. McGowan was selected to the 2010 and 2011 KJCCC all-conference second team and to the 2010 and 2011 NJCAA Region VI second team.
