Destinee Rocke claimed the win in the women's 60-meter hurdles and Filip Demsar won the men's 60-meter hurdles
COLUMBIA—The South Carolina track and field teams swept the 60-meter hurdles finals on Friday in the first day of competition at the Carolina Challenge inside the Carolina Indoor Track and Field Complex.
“It was a blessed day,” said head coach Curtis Frye. “We got through the weather and planned for safety. We ran a great meet and the kids had a chance to compete at a track meet. Our team had a good showing.”
Filip Demsar won the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.86. Demsar ran a time of 7.83 in the semifinals, which improved on his previous season best by .01 seconds. Demsar remains unbeaten in hurdles races through his first four hurdles races of the season.
Destinee Rocker completed the 60-meter hurdles sweep, winning the women’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.26. Rocker also ran 8.26 in the semifinals. She is also unbeaten in the hurdles this season.
On the men’s side, Anthony Greenhow, Jr. finished in the top five of the 60 meters. He ran a time of 6.80 in the semifinals and duplicated his time in the 60-meter final. He was just .01 seconds off his season best.

Kyle Reers earned a top-five finish with a time of 1:55.80 in the men’s 800 meters. Reers led a group of four Gamecocks in the top 10 of the event. Aidan Hatton, Alexander Galbraith and Jake Mangione also finished in the top 10 of the men’s 800 meters.
On the women’s side, Grace Zamrowski finished as the runner-up in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.27. Kensi Gray also finished sixth for the Gamecocks.
Alex Costantino shaved eight seconds off her personal best in the women’s Mile to take third place with a time of 5:00.02.
Emily Valentine also set a new personal best in the women’s pole vault. She cleared 3.75m/12-3.50 for a 10-centimeter personal best.
Tierra Frasier finished as the top finisher in the qualifying heats of the 60 meters. She ran a time of 7.54, which was a new personal best for the freshman by .04 seconds.
The Gamecocks return to action at Noon on Saturday for the second and final day of competition at the Carolina Challenge.
“Our kids keep getting a chance to take another test. I was afraid the weather might get in the way of that. You can practice a lot, but there’s nothing like game speed. The more you face it, the better you are.”
