Rodrigues Named SEC Player of the Week
Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis junior Daniel Rodrigues has been named SEC Player of the Week for week three of the season. The Funchal, Portugal, native went undefeated in singles and doubles in a pair of Gamecock victories last week, including two singles wins over ranked opponents.
During South Carolina’s match versus Clemson last Friday, Rodrigues took down No. 109 Teodar Guisca 6-1, 7-5 to clinch the match for the Gamecocks. Two days later against Georgia Tech, he upset No. 9 Andres Martin with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, giving Rodrigues three singles ranked victories on the season from the No. 1 spot in the lineup.
Rodrigues teams with Connor Thomson at the top of the Gamecocks’ doubles lineup, and the duo sports a 7-0 record that includes wins over Nos. 9, 37, and 45.
On the season, South Carolina is ranked No. 13 in the nation with a perfect 8-0 record. The Gamecocks will look to crack the top 10 with a pair of big matches this weekend, beginning at home on Thu., Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. against No. 6 Wake Forest
