Franks Continues Hot Play at Puerto Rico Classic

Freshman shot another 68 (-4) and sits T-11th at 8-under for the tournament

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico — South Carolina posted another solid round on Monday at the Puerto Rico Classic. The Gamecocks posted another 276 (-12) and sit seventh on the leaderboard at 24-under, just three shots out of fourth place.
 
All four counting scores posted red numbers again today for Carolina. True freshman Nathan Franks shot another 68 (-4) and sits T-11th at 8-under overall for the tournament. He made three birdies and an eagle. Junior Jack Wall also shot 68 (-4). He made five birdies and just one bogey.
 
Senior All-American Ryan Hall posted a 2-under 70 despite a double bogey at the par-4 seventh hole. Like Wall, he also made five birdies. Senior transfer Evans Lewis also shot 70 (-2) with five birdies on his card.
 
“We didn’t get off to a very good start at all, but the guys finished strong and I’m proud of their efforts today,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “Nathan (Franks) played well again and Jack (Wall) looked solid all day. We need a good round tomorrow, but these guys are capable.”
 
Sophomore Rafe Reynolds had a tough day with a 75 (+3). Freshman Gene Zeigler shot 74 (+2). He’s playing as an individual this week.
 
The Gamecocks are T-2nd in the field this week so far with No. 1 Oklahoma in par-5 scoring average at 4.40 (-24). No. 12 Georgia has the 36-hole lead at 43-under. Chris Gotterup of OU has the individual lead at 14-under. Nine players are within five shots of the lead with Franks six back.
 
Carolina will be paired with No. 10 Ole Miss and Wisconsin for the final round on Tuesday. It’s another shotgun start for the field. Team’s will tee off an hour earlier at 6:30 a.m. (ET). The Gamecocks will start on holes eight through 10.
