Gamecocks Split Day One of Home Tournament
The team plays at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (11-8) split its first day of competition at home, sweeping Jacksonville 5-0 before falling 3-2 to No. 19 Stetson. The Gamecocks play two more times Saturday, against UAB at 11 a.m. and UNCW at 5p.m.
In the morning matchup with the Dolphins, the Gamecocks snapped up the team win quickly with sweeps on four courts. Abby Carroll and Alyssa Keller wrapped up the dual with a comeback on court three, losing the first set 27-25 but returning with 21-15, 15-8 in the next two for the win.
The afternoon dual with Stetson was close, up and down the lineup. The two teams split the first two matches of the game, with Keller and Carroll again coming back for the Gamecocks and winning on court four but the Hatters won in three sets at the fives. South Carolina trailed 2-1 after losing on court one, but Kaeli Crews and Hannah Mackenhausen grinded out a 26-24, 29-27 marathon win on court three to tie the dual at 2-2. Stetson won the clinching point in straight sets at the twos.
