South Carolina student-athletes concluded the Spring 2022 semester with a grade point average of 3.240, extending their streak to 31-consecutive semesters with a departmental GPA above 3.0.
University of South Carolina student-athletes concluded the Spring 2022 semester with a grade point average of 3.240, extending their streak to 31-consecutive semesters with a departmental GPA above 3.0, it was announced today. Women’s golf (3.781) earned the highest team GPA in the spring semester while women’s soccer (3.750) earned the second-highest team mark within the department. Overall, 15 of 18 teams posted a GPA of 3.0 or better.
Additionally, equestrian (3.655) earned its second-highest program GPA on record, women’s soccer (3.750) earned its fourth-highest program GPA, women’s golf (3.781) and men’s soccer (3.590) earned its fifth-highest program GPA, and women’s basketball (3.298) earned its sixth-highest program GPA on record.
“Not only do our student-athletes take great pride in athletic performance, but they also take satisfaction in their academic successes,” said Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “I want to thank our Dodie Athletic staff for their efforts in assisting our student-athletes. Our staff helps build student-athletes for career achievements.”
The department is honored to name 74 student-athletes to the President’s List for earning a 4.0 GPA, 151 student-athletes to the Dean’s List for earning a 3.5 or above, and 370 to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for earning above a 3.0.
“We have exceptional student-athletes,” said Paul Stoltzfus, Associate AD for Academics. “Their dedication to the pursuit of excellence is unmatched and we continue to be inspired by their tenacity.”
Eleven Gamecock athletic squads have met the 3.0 standard for all 31 semesters – equestrian, men’s golf, women’s golf, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, softball, women’s swimming and diving, men’s tennis, women’s tennis, women’s track and field and volleyball. Beach volleyball has made a 3.0 GPA or better for all 18 semesters of the sport’s existence at South Carolina.
