Women’s Tennis Earns ITA Academic Honors
Columbia, S.C. – Six members of the South Carolina women’s tennis team were recognized as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes on Monday, and the team was named an ITA All-Academic Team for the ninth year in a row.
The Gamecocks typically see more than hald of their roster earn ITA Scholar-Athletes status and today’s announcement was no different. Ayana Akli, Kendall Couch, Megan Davies, Sarah Hamner, Elise Mills, and Lindsay Tulenko were this season’s honorees.
Davies joins Silvia Chinellato (2016-2021) as only the second Gamecock in school history to earn the award five times after using her extra year of eligibility. She becomes only the sixth Gamecocks to earn the award four or more times. Couch snagged her third ITA Scholar-Athlete award in as many seasons. Mills and Tulenko both made their second appearances on the list while Akli and Hamner each picked up their first.
A student-athlete must have at least a 3.5 grade point average for the academic year to receive the ITA Scholar-Athlete Award, and a team must have a 3.2 GPA for the team award.
