Story Named SEC Co-Player of the Week

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis junior James Story was named SEC Co-Player of the week, the league announced on Wednesday.

Story went 4-0 this past weekend, defeating his singles opponents from both the match versus Georgia Tech and the match versus Wake Forest in straight sets. In doubles, the junior and his partner Jake Beasley defeated both of their opponents, 7-6(6) against Georgia Tech and 7-5 against Wake Forest.

The Cardiff, Wales, native is perfect in dual play in both singles and doubles. He has clinched four doubles point this season, including the doubles point against Wake Forest. Story also clinched the season opener versus Charlotte.

Story is on an eight-match singles winning streak and an 11-match doubles win streak. This is the first SEC honor of his career.

The junior is the second Gamecock to earn the honor this season after fellow junior Connor Thomson claimed the honor during the first week of the season.

Story and the rest of the Gamecock men’s tennis squad will see action next at the ITA Indoor National Championships in Chicago, Ill. The team earned the No. 6 seed at the event and will take on No. 11 seed Georgia on Fri., Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. ET.
