No. 4 Gamecocks Split Pair of Matches in Raleigh

Carolina will face Virginia Tech in the third place bout at the Wolfpack Match Play Tuesday
RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 4 South Carolina split a pair of tight matches on Monday at the Wolfpack Match Play. The Gamecocks took down Louisville 3-2 in the quarterfinals before falling 3-2 to Duke in the semifinals this evening.
Senior Justine Fournand went 2-0 in her matches today to lead the way for South Carolina.
In the quarterfinals, the Gamecocks came back to defeat the Cardinals thanks to a pair of late, 1-up wins in extra holes from sophomore All-American Louise Rydqvist and freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand. Fournand led her match from the seventh hole on in a 3&2 victory that was closed out on hole 16.
In the semifinals Carolina got 1-up wins from its senior French duo of Fournand and Mathilde Claisse. Rydqvist fell 1-up in the match that eventually would decide who advanced.
The Gamecocks will face Virginia Tech in the third place match on Tuesday. Live scoring will be available again via Golfstat.
Carolina will have finished in the top-five in all nine of the team’s regular season events against the toughest schedule in the nation via Golfweek.
