Carolina will face Virginia Tech in the third place bout at the Wolfpack Match Play Tuesday

RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 4 South Carolina split a pair of tight matches on Monday at the Wolfpack Match Play. The Gamecocks took down Louisville 3-2 in the quarterfinals before falling 3-2 to Duke in the semifinals this evening.

Senior Justine Fournand went 2-0 in her matches today to lead the way for South Carolina.

In the quarterfinals, the Gamecocks came back to defeat the Cardinals thanks to a pair of late, 1-up wins in extra holes from sophomore All-American Louise Rydqvist and freshman Mia Sandtorv Lussand. Fournand led her match from the seventh hole on in a 3&2 victory that was closed out on hole 16.

In the semifinals Carolina got 1-up wins from its senior French duo of Fournand and Mathilde Claisse. Rydqvist fell 1-up in the match that eventually would decide who advanced.
