South Carolina Releases APR Scores
All of the University of South Carolina’s countable intercollegiate sports posted a multiyear score of 950 or better once again, according to the Academic Progress Rate (APR) statistics that were released today. Of the eighteen measured sports, twelve sports recorded multiyear APR scores of 980 or better.
“I am extremely proud of how our student-athletes represent themselves and our University,” said Athletics Director Ray Tanner. “Every semester, every year, they achieve academic success by working hard in the classroom, in study hall and balancing the many tasks they have as student-athletes. These APR scores are indicative of their hard work and commitment.”
Nine sports scored a perfect single-year score (1000) for the 2021-22 academic year. Volleyball registered a perfect single-year score for the ninth-straight year. Beach Volleyball continues it streak of perfect APR scoring since the NCAA started collecting data for the sport. Football’s multiyear score exceeded the national average by 15 points. Our 2022 national champion women’s basketball team outpaced the multiyear national average by 13 points.
The APR is a point system based on scholarship student-athletes’ eligibility and retention for a pre-determined four-year time period. The NCAA has suspended APR penalties through Spring 2023, but, in normal year, NCAA sports falling below the established multiyear cutoff (930) may be subject to penalties including scholarship reductions and postseason bans. For purposes of APR reporting, indoor & outdoor track & field teams are combined. The data released on Tuesday includes the scholarship student-athletes on rosters from the 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22 academic years.
