Gamecocks Earn Another WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award

South Carolina recorded the 23rd best team GPA in the country for the 2022-23 academic year
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – South Carolina earned another academic honor on Tuesday with the announcement of the All-Scholar Team GPA Awards from the Women’s Golf Coaches Association. The Gamecocks had the 23rd best cumulative GPA in the country for the 2022-23 academic year at 3.794 (third highest in SEC behind only Vanderbilt and Ole Miss).
All six of South Carolina’s eligible players were named WGCA All-American Scholars in early July. To be selected as a WGCA Scholar All-American, a student-athlete must have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher and have played in 50 percent of the team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the season.
Off the course, the Gamecocks posted a 3.842 team GPA in the spring semester which was the highest in the athletic department. Four players were named to the President’s List (4.0 GPA) and every player on the roster had a GPA of 3.5 our higher.
The Gamecocks had another stellar season on the course as well as the team matched the program’s best finish in school history at the NCAA Championship (May 19-23). Carolina made match play for the second time ever and T-5th (finished fifth in 2012 and T-5th in 2016). The team finished fourth in stroke play portion of NCAA finals and shot the lowest 72-hole score in program history at the NCAA Championship at 1,153 (+1). The Gamecocks and top-ranked Stanford were the only teams in the 30-team field to have three players finish in the top-25. Carolina finished in the top-five in all 12 of the team’s events this season, a new program record, and finished the year ranked No. 4 in the final Golfstat Team Rankings. The Gamecocks had the toughest schedule in the country via the Golfweek/Sagrain Rankings.
Carolina was the only team in the country that made the top-15 cut and match play at the 2023 NCAA Championship to rank in the top-25 for highest GPAs for the 2022-23 academic year.
