Jones Picked by Minnesota in the Seventh Round of the MLB Draft
ARLINGTON – Junior righthanded pitcher Eli Jones of the University of South Carolina baseball team was picked in the seventh round by the Minnesota Twins on the second day of the 2024 MLB First-Year Player Draft on Monday afternoon (July 15).
Jones, a junior righthanded pitcher from Peachtree City, Ga., made 17 appearances with 15 starts for the Gamecocks in 2024, striking out 56 batters in 68.2 innings pitched and winning three games. He had a perfect game through the first six innings in a win over Vanderbilt on March 23. Jones allowed just one run while striking out six in six innings in a win over Florida on April 12. In the three years at Carolina, Jones has eight wins and a 4.76 ERA.
