Carpenter Leads Trio of Gamecocks at Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate

Sophomore finished T-18th for his third career top-20 at South Carolina

STATESBORO, Ga. – Sophomore Bo Carpenter finished T-18th at the Thomas Sharkey Individual Collegiate on Sunday to lead the three Gamecocks who competed in the all individual event. The Tifton, Ga., native shot 219 (+3) over the course of 54 holes at Georgia Southern University Golf Club.

Carpenter shot 69 (-3) in the opening round, 78 (+6) in round two and 72 (E) in round three.

He made 10 birdies and T-6th in the field in par-5 scoring average (4.42, -7). It’s Carpenter’s third career top-20 finish 13 events played.

Redshirt freshman Ismael Encinas finished T-33rd with a 54-hole total of 224 (+8). He finished T-2nd in the field in par-3 scoring average (2.83, -2).

Freshman Emil Elkjær Petersen, a mid-year enrollee, made his Gamecock debut and finished T-49th with a 54-hole total of 229 (+13). Like Carpenter, he also made double-digit birdies with 10 red numbers on his scorecard.

The No. 18 Gamecocks officially open the spring season as a team at the Puerto Rico Classic (Feb. 10-12) next week. Carolina will be joined by five other SEC teams in Puerto Rico: No. 1 Ole Miss, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 7 LSU, Tennessee and Georgia. This year marks the fourth-straight season the Gamecocks will open the spring at the Puerto Rico Classic.
