Feagin Named to McClain Award Top 10
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s basketball senior Sania Feagin was among the Top 10 candidates for the 2025 Katrina McClain Award, the Naismith Hall of Fame in partnership with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced today. Now in its eighth year, the award recognizes the top power forward in women’s NCAA Division I college basketball. It is named for the two-time All-American, 1987 National Player of the Year and Class of 2012 Hall of Famer.
Feagin has started every game for the No. 2/2 Gamecocks this season, posting career highs with 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. In 10 games against ranked opponents this season, those numbers rise to 8.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, and she is shooting 62.3 percent in those games. She is sixth in the SEC with 1.55 blocks per game, including 2.11 against SEC opponents, which ranks second in the league. Her impact goes beyond her own stats, though, as her communication guides the stingy Gamecock defense, which ranks sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.343) and is fourth in the country in blocks per game (6.1).
In March, the Top 10 list will be narrowed to just five, and in late March, the five finalists will be presented to McClain and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee, where winners will be selected. The selection committee is composed of top women’s basketball personnel, including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers. Fans are encouraged to participate in Fan Voting in both of the remaining round starting on Fri., Feb. 7 at HoopHallAwards.com. The Fan Vote will count as one committee vote during the finalist selection process.
The winner of the 2025 McClain Award will be presented on a to-be-determined date, along with the other four members of the Women’s Starting Five. Additional awards being presented include the Nancy Lieberman Award (point guard), Ann Meyers Drysdale Award (shooting guard), Cheryl Miller Award (small forward) and Lisa Leslie Award (center).
No. 2/2 South Carolina is on the road for a pair of games this week, beginning on Thu., Feb. 6, at Georgia.
