Gamecocks Travel to Georgia Tech for Saturday Match

ATLANTA, Ga. – The No. 22 South Carolina women’s tennis team heads to Atlanta for its first road dual match of the season to face Georgia Tech for a 12:00 p.m. start at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex on Sat., Feb. 8.

Gamecock Notables

  • The Gamecocks are currently 3-1 in dual matches this season, coming off of a two-week hiatus after shutting out New Mexico 4-0 on Jan. 25.
  • South Carolina defeated New Mexico in the consolation match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend to earn its third win of the season. The Gamecocks nearly dropped the doubles point after a pair of Lobos claimed the second win from the No. 1 position. Olympe Lancelot and Kaitlyn Carnicella secured the clinch after topping their opponents 6-3 followed by Bella Bergkvist Larsson delivering the game-winning clinch from the No. 5 position with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 showing. Sarah Hamner and Misa Malkin picked up the other two singles wins.
  • The Gamecocks dropped their match to a then-No. 7 Duke 4-1 in the opening day of the Kickoff Weekend. South Carolina struck first in the match, claiming the doubles point and winning across all three courts. The Garnet & Black were unable to keep the momentum during singles action as the Blue Devils ultimately won the match after picking up wins on four courts.
  • Malkin is currently undefeated in singles for the 2025 dual match season, facing the Yellow Jackets with a 3-0 record. Paired up with Larsson for doubles, the two are 3-0 as well.
  • Carnicella and Hamner represent the team in the latest edition of the ITA singles and doubles rankings, released on Feb. 5. Hamner is No. 21 and Carnicella sits at No. 61 for singles. The two rank No. 59 for doubles.

Scouting the Yellow Jackets

  • Georgia Tech holds a 4-3 record in dual matches this season and is currently undefeated at home (3-0).
  • The Yellow Jackets are coming off of a trip to Illinois where they faced the Fighting Illini and Northwestern. Georgia Tech opened the weekend narrowly defeating Illinois 4-3 before dropping its match 2-4 against Northwestern.
  • Alejandra Cruz leads the team in singles for dual matches with an undefeated 4-0 record from the top two positions.
  • Cruz and Given Roach are ranked No. 74 in doubles.

Series History

  • The Yellow Jackets lead the series record against South Carolina 6-5.
  • Georgia Tech was on a six-game win streak before South Carolina snapped it last season, defeating the Yellow Jackets 4-3 at home.
