No. 18 Gamecocks Open Spring in Puerto Rico Monday

RÍO GRANDE, PUERTO RICO – No. 18 South Carolina opens the spring portion of its schedule on Monday morning at the Puerto Rico Classic. It’s the fourth consecutive appearance for the team at the annual event which always features a strong field and a plethora of fellow SEC teams.

The Gamecocks will be joined this week by five other teams from the SEC: Georgia, No. 7 LSU, No. 4 Oklahoma, No. 1 Ole Miss and Tennessee. No. 8 Virginia is the other ranked team in the field this week via the latest Clippd Top-25 Poll (released on Feb. 5).

Junior Zach Adams is in the top spot in the lineup this week. He had a nice fall with a trio of top-20 finishes. He’s joined this week by senior All-American Nathan Franks, sophomore transfer Brock Blaise, sophomore Bo Carpenter and freshman Marek Fleming. Adams, Franks and Blaise started all four fall events in helping the Gamecocks crack the top-25 poll with a trio of top-three team finishes. Carpenter will be making his second start in the lineup of the season and Fleming will be making his third start in the lineup.

Redshirt freshman Ismael Encinas and mid-year enrollee freshman Emil Elkjær Petersen will compete as individuals this week for South Carolina.

The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 7 LSU and Tennessee for the opening 18 holes on Monday. It’s a shotgun start for the field at 7:30 a.m. (ET) at Grand Reserve Golf Club. Golfstat will be providing live scoring all 54 holes.
