Gamecocks Head to Gainesville to Face No. 3/3 Florida Saturday Night

South Carolina Athletics

The Gators won 70-69 back on Jan. 22 at Colonial Life Arena thanks to a layup by Will Richard with 4.5 seconds remaining

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina (10-14, 0-11 SEC) will be on the road for its next two league games starting with a top-five road matchup at No. 3/3 Florida (21-3, 8-3 SEC) on Saturday night. Tip is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET) on SEC Network with Roy Philpott (pxp) and Jon Sundvold (analyst) on the call.

The series is tied over the last 12 games dating back to the 2016-17 season. The Gamecocks dropped the team’s only game at Exactech Arena under Lamont Paris in his first season back on Jan. 25, 2023. Prior to that, Carolina had won three-straight at Florida in a stretch from 2018 to 2021, each game decided by six points or less.

The Gamecocks and Gators played earlier this season at Colonial Life Arena back on Jan. 22. Florida’s Will Richard made the game-winning layup with 4.8 seconds remaining as the Gators got out of Columbia with a 70-69 road victory. Carolina led for 38 minutes and 33 seconds. Junior Zachary Davis tied a career-high with 22 points in 33 minutes of action. The 70 points by Florida were their second-lowest point total in a game this season. The Gators rank 13th in the nation in scoring offense at 83.6 points per game.

Florida has won three-straight with impressive road wins at No. 1/1 Auburn (Feb. 8) and No. 22/RV Mississippi State (Feb. 11) in its last two outings.

The Gamecocks’ only top-five road win the last 25 seasons came last season under Paris with the team’s 63-59 win at No. 5/5 Tennessee on Jan. 30, 2024. It was Carolina’s first top-five road victory since beating No. 3 Kentucky on March 2, 1997.
