Baseball Falls to Clemson on Sunday

COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell, 8-2, Sunday afternoon (March 2) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.

Dylan Eskew had a great performance on the mound. He allowed just three hits and one run with seven strikeouts and four walks in six innings pitched.

Clemson scored a run in the fifth, then had seven runs in the eighth and ninth frames combined. Carolina scored its two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Jase Woita had an RBI single to score Nathan Hall, who led off the inning with a single. Ethan Petry scored on a fielder’s choice and error that eventually turned into the third out with runner interference.

Hall and Petry had two hits apiece to lead Carolina’s offense.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Attendance at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park was 8,242, a sellout. The three games had a total attendance of 22,116.
  • Eskew lowered his ERA to 2.08 after today’s outing.
  • The Carolina pitching staff struck out 37 batters this weekend.
  • Hall’s four hits in three games led the Gamecocks.
