COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 1-3 on the week, defeating Gardner-Webb on Tuesday night in seven innings before falling in three games to Clemson.

NOTES:
Carolina’s pitching staff struck out 36 batters on the weekend against Clemson, highlighted by Jake McCoy’s 12 punchouts in Saturday’s game. McCoy allowed just two runs and three hits in six innings of work. He was named the Tom Price Award winner after Sunday’s game. That is handed out to South Carolina’s Most Valuable Player in the Clemson series.
Dylan Eskew had an equally strong performance on Sunday. He pitched six innings and allowed just three hits and a run with seven strikeouts. Eskew now has a team best 2.08 ERA after three outings.
Ethan Petry continues his strong start. He has a hit in 11 of Carolina’s 12 games while leading the team with 11 RBI. Seven of Petry’s 17 hits are for extra bases and he is now in a tie for third on Carolina’s all-time home run list with 47 round trippers.
Nathan Hall also is hitting over .400 as he has a .405 average after 12 games. Hall is leading the team with four doubles to go along with two home runs and 10 RBI and is a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen bases.
Carolina will play five games this week, hosting Davidson and travelling to The Citadel while playing Morehead State in a three-game set this weekend.
