
Arianna Rodi Named SEC Softball Player of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina softball junior first baseman Arianna Rodi has been named the SEC Co-Player of the Week as announced Monday (Mar. 3). It’s the first SEC Player of the Week honor for her.
Over four games, Rodi batted .615 with 12 RBIs. She had eight hits, six runs, four home runs and two doubles. She also extended her on-base streak to 14 games and is currently on a six-game hitting streak. In all three games against No. 8 Duke, Rodi hit a go-ahead home run.
She had a home run and three RBIs in all four games on the week. Her four consecutive games with a home run is the longest stretch of her career. It’s also the first time in her career with a stretch of more than two straight games with multiple RBIs.
Rodi started the week with a 2-for-3 performances in a 10-2 run-rule victory at Charlotte Tuesday. She also scored two runs.
In the series opener against Duke Friday, Rodi hit a go-ahead three-run home run in the third inning, giving Carolina the lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
On Saturday, Rodi would have a repeat performance, putting the Gamecocks out in front in the top of the first with a two-run home run. She added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly.
She saved her best performance for the series finale against the Blue Devils, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. With Carolina trailing 4-3 in the second, Rodi connected on a 272 foot two-run home run to give the Gamecocks the lead. In the 7th with South Carolina up 8-7, she began a four-run inning with an RBI single to center.
For the season, Rodi is hitting .429 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs. She ranks third in the nation in walks per game with 21 walks.
Rodi and the Gamecocks host Youngstown State Wednesday at 6 p.m.
