Gamecocks Place 13 Individuals on All-SEC Teams

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 4, 2025) – Just three days removed from the 2025 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, the league office has announced its three All-SEC teams. The criteria for All-SEC Teams are as follows: First Team (gold medalist), Second Team (silver medalist) and Third Team (bronze medalist). South Carolina placed 13 individual athletes on the All-SEC teams.

JaMeesia Ford highlighted the All-SEC teams for South Carolina with a placement on the First Team All-SEC following her gold medal finish in the women’s 200m. The sophomore sprinter ran 22.44 in the 200m finale to repeat as the SEC Indoor Champion. Ford clocked 22.36 in the preliminary round to make it to the medal round. Ford also finished runner-up in both the DMR and the 4x400m relay, earning three medals overall at the indoor title meet.

The Gamecocks placed six athletes on the Second Team All-SEC, including a trio from the runner-up 4×400 meter relay squad as well as the distance medley relay squad. Zaya Akins, Sylvia Chelangat and Jayla Jamison were placed on the Second Team All-SEC after running 3:27.24 in the 4x400m relay for the silver medal. The trio was joined by Ford as they posted the second fastest time in program history and in the NCAA this season. Chelangat also finished runner-up in the DMR with teammates Ford, Salma Elbadra and Abigail White joining on the podium. The quartet tied the best finish at the SEC Indoor Championship for the women’s DMR in program history, earning silver medal honors after running a program record time of 10:55.41. The final individual to be placed on the Second Team All-SEC was CJ Licata who finished runner-up in the shot put. Licata, making his season debut at the SEC Indoor Championship, tossed 20.06m (65-9.75) to earn his first indoor SEC medal as a Gamecock. In addition, Licata’s throw at the SEC Indoor Championship ranks third all-time in program history.

The Third Team All-SEC squad also consisted of six Gamecocks, four of which were on the men’s DMR squad. Rogerio Amaral, Devan Crumpton, Jaouad Khchina and Joshua Kosgei finished third overall in the men’s DMR on opening night, earning the bronze medal after running 9:27.14 to set a new Gamecock indoor program record. Jasauana Dennis earned a spot on the Third Team All-SEC in the men’s 400m after running a personal best time of 46.02. His time ranks third all-time in program history and he is the first scorer for South Carolina in the indoor 400m since 2020. The final Gamecock athlete to be placed on the All-SEC squad is newcomer Cheyla Scott. The Oregon transfer capped off the SEC Indoor Championship with a bronze medal finish in the women’s high jump, clearing the bar of 1.89m (6-2.25) for a new indoor personal best. Her mark in the high jump now ranks second all-time in South Carolina program history.
