LEADING OFF

  • The 2025 season is the 52nd season for the Carolina Softball team.
  • South Carolina made the biggest jump of any program this season in the polls this week.
    • The Gamecocks jumped 8 spots to No. 11 in the NFCA/USA Today poll. They jumped 11 spots to No. 10 in the ESPN/USA Softball, 12 spots to No. 9 by D1Softball and 8 spots to No. 9 in the Softball America poll.
  • For the first time in program history every game will be televised on the ESPN family of networks and digital platforms.
    • South Carolina and Georgia are the only two Division I programs to have every game broadcast this season.
  • With a win, the Gamecocks will tie the program record from 1976 for most consecutive wins to start a season.
  • Arianna Rodi was named the SEC Co-Player of the Week (Mar. 3). Rodi was also named a Star of the Week by Softball America.
    • In four games, Rodi batted .615 with 12 RBIs. She had eight hits, six runs, four home runs and two doubles.
    • She also extended her on-base streak to 14 games and is currently on a six-game hitting streak.
    • In all three games against No. 8 Duke, Rodi hit a go-ahead home run.
    • She had a home run and three RBIs in all four games on the week.

BY THE NUMBERS

  • Quincee Lilio has reached based in all 19 games this season and has an 18-game hitting streak.
    • She also has 11 multi-hit games on the season.
    • Lilio is 2nd in the nation in on-base percentage, 3rd in batting average, 8th in hits, and 9th in the nation in walks per game.
  • Ella Chancey has also reached base in all 19 games this season.
    • She ranks 4th in the nation in doubles and 8th in doubles per game.
  • Karley Shelton has reached base in 17 straight games and Arianna Rodi in 14.
    • Shelton ranks 3rd in runs per game, 4th in doubles, 6th in runs, and 8th in doubles per game
    • Rodi ranks 3rd nationally in walks per game, 15th in home runs, 17th in home runs per game, 19th in slugging %, 21st in on-base %, 27th in RBIs, and 28th in RBIs per game.
  • Jori Heard ranks 3rd nationally in wins, 8th in shutouts, and 25th in ERA, 26th in strikeout-to-walk ratio, 29th in WHIP and walks allowed per game.
  • Nealy Lamb ranks 13th in the nation in strikeout to walk ratio and 17th in strikeouts per game.
  • In Carolina’s win at Charlotte, they hit seven doubles in the game. That’s tied for the fourth most in a game this season in Division I.
  • The three doubles in the game by Shelton were the most since Evan Childs against Longwood on Feb. 16, 2010.
  • The Gamecocks tied a program record with 12 walks against North Carolina.
    • It was the second time this season with double-digit walks.
  • South Carolina has outscored their opponents 167-40 on the season, including 34-5 in the fourth inning alone.
  • Carolina had the nation’s longest run-rule streak of nine games end against UNLV.
  • The 11 run-rule victories are tied for the most in Division I this season.
  • As a team the Gamecocks lead the nation in doubles and doubles per game.
  • They also rank 3rd in walks, 4th in base percentage and RBIs per game, 6th in scoring, 7th in sacrifice flies, 8th in fielding percentage, 9th in RBIs, and 10th in double plays.
  • They also rank in the top-20 in seven other categories: double plays per game, batting average, slugging percentage, total runs, shutouts, ERA, and strikeout-to-walk ratio.

IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME

  • South Carolina is 258-103 (.715) at Carolina Softball Stadium since being built in 2013. That includes a 4-1 record at home while hosting an NCAA regional at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.
  • Prior to 2021, South Carolina had not lost double digit games at home in seven years and has won 20 or more eight of the past nine seasons.
  • Since 2016, South Carolina has consistently ranked among the nation’s leaders in attendance. Since that time, excluding the 2021 COVID season that limited attendance, they have never finished lower than 15th in average or cumulative attendance.
  • In 2024, Carolina ranked 7th in the nation in total attendance and 14th in average attendance. They were 9th and 11th in 2023, 7th and 13th in 2022, 7th and 11th in 2020, 10th and 13th in 2019, 11th and 13th in 2018, 10th and 11th in 2017, 12th and 15th in 2016.

NON-CONFERENCE SUCCESS IS NOTHING NEW FOR SC

  • South Carolina is 291-73 (.800) over the past nine years in games outside the SEC.
  • Notable wins include Clemson, Duke, Boston U, Utah, Texas, Penn State, Houston, Arizona State, North Carolina, Florida State, California, Virginia Tech, USF, Long Beach State, Hofstra, Liberty, and UCF.
  • Carolina will play 33 non-conference games in 2025, 28 of which will be played at Carolina Softball Stadium.

SOUTH CAROLINA HISTORICAL RECORD

  • South Carolina has played 2,655 games in its softball history, going 1,712-936-7 (.646) in its 52 years of history.
  • Carolina has posted 30 or more wins in nine of the past 11 full seasons.
  • Carolina has protected home well, also, with 17 or more victories coming in friendly confines each of the past 10 full years.
