
Gamecocks Face Vanderbilt and Ole Miss on the Road
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 43 South Carolina men’s tennis team continues its road stretch this week, playing two ranked opponents. The Gamecocks will take on No. 39 Vanderbilt on Thurs., March 6 at 3:00 p.m. ET, and round out the week at No. 51 Ole Miss on Sat., March 8 at 1:00 p.m.
Gamecock Notables
- South Carolina is coming off a 2-4 loss on the road against No. 27 Kentucky. The Gamecocks struck first, clinching doubles point following wins from Connor Thomson & Lucas da Silva (6-3) and Casey Hoole & Sean Daryabeigi (6-4).
- Kentucky gained the advantage with straight set wins over Hoole and da Silva on courts 1 and 2. Daryabeigi forced a third set but ultimately fell to his opponent, giving the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.
- Thomson earned the Gamecocks’ only singles point, winning 7-6(3), 6-4 in attempt to close the gap. On court 6, Gabe Avram fell 6-3, 6-2 which allowed Kentucky to clinch the 4-2 win.
- Following his recent performances Thomson soared through the ITA rankings, moving from No. 110 to No. 57 with a 5-3 record. Daryabeigi is ranked No. 79 and Jelani Sarr rounds out the team at No. 113.
- Da Silva and Thomson entered the doubles rankings this week for the first time this season, earning a spot at No. 26 with a record of 4-1.
Scouting the Commodores
- Vanderbilt is 8-5 overall this season and 1-3 in conference play. The Commodores boast a perfect 5-0 record at home, and will host the Gamecocks for their SEC home opener.
- The Commodores are coming off a 0-4 loss at No. 21 Alabama. Vanderbilt dropped the doubles point after loosing from the No. 1 and No. 2 positions and were unable to pick up a singles win.
- The duo of Nathan Cox and Michael Ross are ranked No. 28 in doubles with a record of 8-4.
Scouting the Rebels
- Ole Miss is 10-3 overall this season with a 1-2 SEC record. The Rebels are 9-1 at home, currently on a two-match winning streak.
- The Rebels are coming off a dominant 4-0 sweep against No. 74 North Alabama at home.
- Matthieu Chambonniere is 10-1 in singles matches and 6-4 with his doubles partner Benjamin Martin.
- Ole Miss takes on No. 21 Alabama on Thurs., March 6 before hosting the Gamecocks.
Series History
- South Carolina leads the overall series against Vanderbilt 21-14. The Gamecocks have won the last four meetings between the two programs.
- Ole Miss leads the all-time record between the two programs 15-26. The Gamecocks are on a five-match winning streak against the Rebels.
