Gamecocks Close Out Weekend at FGCU

FORT MYERS, FLA. – South Carolina beach volleyball lost to a pair of ranked opponents Saturday, its final day playing in Fort Myers at the FGCU Inaugural Tournament. The Gamecocks (5-4) lost 4-1 to No. 14 FIU (7-4) in the morning, and 3-2 to No. 20 Stetson (9-2) in the afternoon.

Against the Panthers, VB Trost and Evie Ziffer scored the lone point in a tightly contested dual. The pair won 21-17, 17-21, 15-12 on court four to earn the team a split in the first wave of matches, but FIU came back to win each of the top three pairs. In the tournament finale with Stetson, Trost and Ziffer routed the Hatters, 21-11, 21-11, for the game’s first point. Stetson tied the dual with a sweep of court five, but Julia Waugh and Riley Whitesides put the Gamecocks back on top, 2-1, thanks to a 16-21, 21-16, 16-14 comeback win on court one. Stetson pulled ahead with decisions on courts two and three to end the dual.

UP NEXT
The Gamecocks host the Carolina Challenge over the spring break weekend, with four duals on the schedule from Saturday, March 15 to Sunday, March 16. South Carolina plays at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day, starting with duals against UNCW and Coastal Carolina on day one and Eastern Kentucky and College of Charleston on day two.
