Gamecocks Sweep Kentucky at Home

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 25 South Carolina women’s tennis team swept No. 58 Kentucky 4-0 at home to earn its third SEC win of the season.

No. 36 Kaitlyn Carnicella and Sarah Hamner topped No. 87 Lizzy Stevens and Ellie Eades 6-2 to kick off doubles action on a high note. Helena Buchwald and Lauren Friedman paired up for the first time this season and secured the doubles point with a 6-3 showing.

The Gamecocks had a strong start in singles, securing first-set victories on five courts, including three dominant 6-1 performances. It was the bottom half of the lineup that carried the team to a shutout victory over the Wildcats.

Bella Bergkvist Larsson struck first with a authoritative 6-1, 6-0 win to extend the Gamecocks lead to 2-0. No. 93 Misa Malkin won her match in similar fashion, picking up her fourth consecutive singles victory of the season after topping her opponent 6-1, 6-1 to get the Garnet & Black within one of clinching.

Buchwald delivered the clinch with a 6-4, 6-3 win after holding off an attempted comeback during the second set.

The Gamecocks hit the road for the next two matches starting with a trip to Ole Miss on Fri., March 14 at 4:00 p.m.
