Baseball Hosts Georgia State Wednesday Night

- Carolina continues its seven-game homestand on Wednesday, March 12 with a 6:30 p.m. matchup with Georgia State.

SCOUTING GEORGIA STATE
- The Panthers took 2-of-3 games from Western Carolina this past weekend, winning 12-7 on Friday and 8-4 on Sunday.
- Colin Hynek drove in three runs in Sunday’s win while Cole Roberts struck out nine in an 8-inning start.
- Kaleb Freeman leads the Panthers with a .412 batting average and leads the team and the country with 12 doubles.
- On the mound, Caleb White has 30 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched and Roberts is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA.
- Georgia State faces Georgia Tech on Tuesday night before making the drive to Columbia on Wednesday.
- Brad Stromdahl is in his sixth season as head coach at Georgia State. He was the head coach at Georgia Gwinnett College for 11 years before taking the job at GSU.
SERIES VS. GEORGIA STATE
- Carolina leads the all-time series with Georgia State, 8-4, heading into Wednesday’s game.
- The two teams met last March 12 in North Augusta. Carolina won that contest, 4-3, Eddie Copper struck out six in 4.2 innings and Ryan Bakes had an RBI double.
- Carolina is 7-1 against GSU at home. The Gamecocks shut out the Panthers, 2-0, on March 3, 2009, in Columbia. Whit Merrifield accounted for both runs with a two-run home run.
PITCHING STANDS OUT IN OPENING STRETCH
- The South Carolina pitching staff holds a 3.31 ERA with 197 strikeouts in 147 innings pitched after 17 games this season.
- Ten different Gamecocks have a win on the mound while Carolina has five saves in 17 games in 2025.
- Jake McCoy struck out 12 batters in six innings of work against Clemson on March 1. McCoy was named the Tom Price Award winner, handed out to the MVP of the Clemson series.
- Dylan Eskew allowed just one run on three hits in six innings on Sunday against the Tigers. Eskew now has a 2.08 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 13 innings pitched.
- Brandon Stone came in relief on Friday against Morehead State and struck out nine in a season best 5.2 innings pitched.
- Jarvis Evans threw a team-best seven innings, striking out six batters in a 9-1 win over The Citadel.
BEAU KNOWS
- Freshman Beau Hollins has played in nine of Carolina’s 17 games this season and has 10 hits (.370 batting average), a double and four RBI.
- Hollins had three hits in the 9-1 win over The Citadel on March 5. He reached base four times in the win.
- He then collected a pair of hits in Saturday’s 16-11 win over Morehead State, including a big RBI in the 7th inning.
STONES BIG IN MSU SWEEP
- Brandon Stone struck out nine batters in 5.2 innings of relief in helping Carolina to an 11-7 win over Morehead State on Friday, March 7.
- Stone came into a bases-loaded situation in the second and got a strikeout to end the threat.
- He then scattered six hits and allowed two earned runs in his long relief appearance.
- Stone is now 1-0 with a 1.93 ERA and a .186 opponent’s batting average.
- Evan Stone connected on his first career grand slam in Saturday’s 16-11 win over the Eagles.
- Stone’s home run was part of a five-run second inning. Carolina went on to score seven runs in the third frame.
- Stone now has two home runs and seven RBI in 11 games played.
UP NEXT
- Carolina opens Southeastern Conference play this weekend as the Gamecocks hosts new SEC member Oklahoma.
- Friday’s game will start at 7 p.m., with Saturday’s contest at 4 p.m. Sunday’s game is at 1:30 p.m.
