Hoole Tabbed SEC Player of the Week
COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina men’s tennis senior Casey Hoole earned his first ever SEC Player of the Week honor, announced by the league on Wednesday afternoon.
Hoole is the second Gamecock this season to pick up a weekly award as Connor Thomson received the accolade two weeks ago.
The Australian native played a crucial role in South Carolina’s two SEC road wins last week against Vanderbilt and Ole Miss.
When the match was tied 2-all against the Commodores, Hoole delivered a pivotal win that put South Carolina ahead 3-2 after the Gamecocks had dropped the doubles point which largely helped prevent Vanderbilt from winning the match. The senior staged a three-set comeback, overcoming a 4-6 first set loss. He won a tightly contested second set in a tiebreak 7-6(5) before bouncing back from a 1-4 deficit to win 6-4 in the decider.
Against Ole Miss, Hoole and Sean Daryabeigi collected the first doubles match win in a 6-1 victory, helping set the tone early for the Gamecocks. After South Carolina earned the double point, Hoole delivered the clinch to secure a 4-0 win for the Garnet & Black after a 7-6 (12-10), 6-4 win in singles.
The Gamecocks host Arkansas on Thu., March 12 at 5:00 p.m. before welcoming Oklahoma for a noon match on Sat., March
