
South Carolina Wraps up Day One of Florida Relays
GAINESVILLE, Fla. (April 4, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field capped off day one of the 2025 Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday afternoon in Gainesville, Fla.
The men’s squad took part in just four events on the opening day and the Gamecocks were highlighted by the 4×400 meter relay team of Josiah Wrice, Devan Crumpton, Josue Richardson Salazar and Jasauna Dennis. The quartet won their heat and finished third overall in the 4×400 meter preliminary round, running 3:04.78 for the second fastest time in the East Region this season. The foursome will return for the 4x400m relay finals tomorrow at 5:20 p.m.
Individually, Anthony Greenhow had the best overall finish of the day, securing seventh place in the 200-meter sprint with a mark of 20.65 (1.4). Ellis Neighbors and Jalen Barry finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in the men’s javelin with Neighbors throwing a new personal best distance of 64.11m (210-4) to rank seventh all-time in Gamecock history. Barry tossed the javelin 61.19m (200-9).
South Carolina women also competed in just four events on the opening day of the Florida Relays. Cheyla Scott kicked things off with the ninth best outdoor high jump in program history, clearing the bar at 1.73m (5-8) to finish ninth overall in the standings. Lena Richardson led the charge in the women’s pole vault, clearing the bar with a new outdoor personal best clearance of 3.90m (12-9.5) to finish 10th overall. Her performance in the pole vault improves on her already 10th-place spot on the all-time program leaderboard.
A pair of sprinters competed in the women’s 200m with Zaya Akins leading the way with an 11th place finish and a new wind-legal personal best mark of 23.18 (-0.6).
The Gamecocks will conclude the 2025 Pepsi Florida Relays tomorrow beginning at noon before returning home for their final home meet of the season on April 12.
