
Gamecocks Begin SEC Championship Against Mississippi State
AUBURN, Ala. – The No. 23 South Carolina women’s tennis team begins the 2025 SEC Championship against Mississippi State on Wed., April 15 at 7:00 p.m. (ET).
The Gamecocks will play in the first round of the tournament as the ninth seed while Mississippi State is seeded 16th. The winner of this match is slated to play eight-seeded Texas on Thurs., April 16 at 6:00 p.m.
This year’s tournament is hosted by Auburn University at the Yarbrough Tennis Center from April 16-20. More information on the event can be found on the championship webpage.
Gamecock Notables
- Records: 13-10 (overall), 8-7 (SEC), 9-2 (home), 3-7 (away)
- The Gamecocks wrapped up the regular season ranked No. 23 in the latest edition of the ITA rankings. Sarah Hamner (No. 13) and Kaitlyn Carnicella (No. 55) represent the team in singles, both with season high rankings. The duo is tabbed at No. 16 in doubles which is a season high as well.
- Hamner leads the team with a strong 19-9 overall record in singles. She is 10-5 in dual matches from the No. 1 position with a 7-3 conference standing. Additionally, the senior has picked up 10 ranked wins throughout the season, six of which were over top 30 opponents. Hamner enters tomorrows match on a five-game win streak.
- Carnicella follows not too far behind with a 17-10 overall singles record, tallying five ranked wins. She is 7-5 in dual matches from the No. 2 position with a 5-3 record in SEC play.
- Misa Malkin boasts an 18-10 overall record, going 12-6 in dual matches from the No. 3 (2-2) and 4 (10-3) positions. Freshman Bella Bergkvist Larsson has a solid 12-7 record this dual match season from the No. 5 (9-6) and 6 (3-1) positions.
- In doubles, Carnicella and Hamner lead the team with a 10-7 record that includes a 6-4 conference standing from the No. 1 position. The two have taken down seven ranked opponents and are on a two-match winning streak.
- Olympe Lancelot and Larsson are 5-5 on the season from the No. 2 position. The two are 1-0 against ranked opponents as they defeated No. 25 Tilwith Di Girolami and Anita Sahdiieva of then-No. 6 LSU back in March.

- Mississippi State has one tab in the latest edition of ITA rankings. Athina Pitta and Gianna Oboniye are No. 50 in doubles.
- Oboniya has a 9-16 overall singles record and is 7-8 on dual matches from the top of the lineup.
- Oboniya and Pitta are 10-8 in doubles at the No. 1 position.

- The Gamecocks lead all-time series record 35-2.
