
Baseball Clinches Series Win with 7-2 Victory over Ole Miss
COLUMBIA – Jake McCoy struck out seven and allowed just one run in 6.1 innings and Nathan Hall homered and drove in three as the University of South Carolina baseball team clinched the series in a 7-2 win over No. 11 Ole Miss Friday afternoon (April 18) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.
McCoy allowed just three hits with a run and walked three to earn his fourth win of the season. Caleb Jones and Ashton Crowther went the final 2.2 innings, allowing just one hit. Crowther picked up his first save of the year.
Ole Miss scored a run in the first on a leadoff home run but Carolina quickly answered with three runs in the first. Jase Woita drove in Nathan Hall with a single to right. Ethan Petry scored on a wild pitch and Woita scored as Beau Hollins reached after the Ole Miss first baseman missed the bag for the putout.
Blake Jackson hit his second home run of the season in the sixth. After Ole Miss put up a run in the eighth, Hall provided insurance with a two-run single to center.
Hall and Petry had two hits apiece for the Gamecocks.
