
Gamecocks Concludes Action at Michael Johnson Invite
WACO, Texas (April 19, 2025) – South Carolina track & field put a bow on a prestigious weekend meet at the Michael Johnson Invite on Saturday in Waco, Texas.
The women competed in just five meets on the closing day and came away with a pair of victories in the relays. The 4×100 meter relay squad of Jayla Jamison, Cynteria James, Zaya Akins and JaMeesia Ford clocked a new NCAA leading time and a Baylor facility record after running 42.74. The 4x400m relay squad of James, Ford, Jamison and Joslyn Hamilton closed the door on the meet with a win after crossing the line in 3:36.06.
Individually, Hamilton shined in the 100-meter hurdles after running 13.77 (-0.3) in the preliminary round before posting a new wind-legal personal best in the finals with a time of 13.32 (0.3). The freshman hurdler finished third overall in the event after posting the 13th best mark in the region.
On the men’s side, the 400 meter duo of Devan Crumpton and Josiah Wrice stole the show, finishing second and third in the event. Crumpton ran a new personal best time of 45.95 to place second, clocking the eighth best time in program history and the 10th best time in the region. Crumpton edged out teammate Josiah Wrice who also ran a personal best, crossing the finish line in 45.99 for the 11th best time in the regional rankings.
Channing Ferguson and David Warmington also moved up the regional leaderboard in their respective events. Ferguson cleared a season-best height in the high jump of 2.13m (6-11.75) for the 16th best mark in the region. Meanwhile, Warmington clocked a season best time in the 110-meter hurdles at 13.94 (0.1) to rank 24th overall in the East Region.
The Gamecocks return to action next weekend for a two-day meet in Charlotte, N.C. as they compete in the Charlotte Invitational for the second consecutive season. The meet will begin on Friday, April 25 and conclude on Saturday, April 26.
