Scobey's Double Lifts Baseball to Walk-Off Win over UNF
COLUMBIA – KJ Scobey’s ground-rule double in the bottom of the 10th inning scored Jordan Carrion and gave the University of South Carolina baseball team a 3-2, 10-inning walk-off win over North Florida Tuesday night (April 22) at Ray Tanner Field at Founders Park.
Carrion opened the 10th with a double to right. After UNF intentionally walked Beau Hollins, Scobey took the 3-2 pitch from Brandon Adams and deposited it over the centerfielder’s head for a ground-rule double and Carolina’s first extra-inning walk-off of the year.
The Gamecocks scored in the bottom of the fifth on Nathan Hall’s two-run home run to the visitor’s bullpen. UNF scored an unearned run in the sixth and a run in the eighth to send it to extra innings.
Carolina’s pitching allowed just six hits and had only one walk on the day. Brendan Sweeney earned the win, striking out a pair in the top of the 10th. Jackson Soucie pitched the first five frames, allowing three hits and no runs with three strikeouts.
Scobey had two hits to lead Carolina’s offense while Hall drove in a pair.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Ethan Petry’s double in the bottom of the fourth gave the junior 200 career hits at Carolina.
- This was Carolina’s first walk-off since the Raleigh Regional in 2024 on Will Tippett’s sacrifice fly in a win over James Madison.
- Soucie now has allowed just nine runs in 25.1 innings with 28 strikeouts and a .204 opponent’s batting average.
