Track & Field Headed to Queen City for Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 24, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field is back in action this weekend with a two-day meet in Charlotte, N.C., competing in the Charlotte Invitational for the second consecutive season.

Meet Information
The 2025 Charlotte Invitational will operate as a two-day meet, beginning on Friday, April 25 and concluding on Saturday, April 26. Friday will consist of four field events beginning with the women’s hammer throw at 2:30 p.m. Running events on Friday will be distance events only, beginning with the women’s open 5K run at 6:30 p.m. and concluding with the men’s 5K invite at 9:30 p.m. Saturday’s festivities will begin with the women’s high jump at 11 a.m., while the first track event will be the men’s 4×100 meter relay at noon. The final event of the meet will be the men’s 4x400m relay at 5 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the women’s 4x400m relay at 5:10 p.m.

Down to the Wire
The Gamecocks have just two regular season meets remaining on the schedule before postseason begins: Charlotte Invitational (April 25-26) and the East Coast Relays (May 2-3). The 2025 SEC Outdoor Championship will be the final chance for the Gamecocks to position themselves in the East Regional rankings needed to qualify for the NCAA East Regional Meet. The top 48 individual athletes will qualify for the regional competition in late May, while the top 24 relay teams will make the cut off.

As it stands right now, both the men and women’s squads have 20 marks each inside the top 48 overall, while there are 10 women’s marks and six men’s marks inside the top 10 overall. JaMeesia Ford currently ranks first in the region in the 200m, second in the 100m and fourth overall in the 400m. Meanwhile, the women’s 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay each are positioned atop the standings in the East Region. Salma Elbadra, the new program record holder in the 1500m, sits second overall in the regional rankings in the 1500m after running 4:05.85 over the weekend at Wake Forest. As for the men, CJ Licata leads the individual rankings sitting at second in the men’s shot put, followed by Theo Mudzengerere in the men’s triple jump with a fourth-place standing.
