Carolina falls just shy of eight-team cutline for match play by two shots on Friday at Sea Island
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – No. 20 South Carolina finished ninth at the 2025 SEC Championship on Friday, missing the top-eight cutline for match play by just two shots behind No. 3 Texas and No. 15 Alabama. The Gamecocks shot 836 (-4) over the course of the last three day’s at Sea Island Golf Club’s Seaside Course.
Senior All-American Nathan Franks paced Carolina this week with a T-13th finish at 5-under par. The Roebuck, S.C. native logged scores of 65-68-72. He was bogey free thru 27 holes, making his first bogey of the tournament today with a five at the par-4 10th hole after getting just out of position in a bunker off the tee.
Redshirt junior Frankie Harris paced the Gamecocks in round three today with a 2-under 68. The only blemish on his scorecard was also at the par-4 10th hole. Harris T-32nd at even par with a 54-hole total of 210.
Junior Zach Adams finished T-37th at 1-over (211) for the week. He logged scores of 70-70-71. Sophomore Brock Blais T-51st at 3-over. After shooting 74 (+4) in the opening round, Blais bounced back nicely with a 1-under 69 in round two and an even par 70 (E) today. He was bogey free the opening the opening 14 holes today and made a clutch birdie down the stretch at the par-4 16th hole to keep the team in the thick of the match play hunt. Freshman Marek Fleming finished T-77th at 13-over in his SEC Championship debut with scores of 71-74-78 over the last three days at Sea Island.
In eight seasons of the new match play format at the SEC Championship, today’s 6-under cutline was the first ever under par number to make match play. No. 2 Auburn earned the top seed for match play with an SEC Championship 54-hole record team score of 802 (-38). The previous record was 806 (-34) set by Alabama in 2014. Sophomore Jackson Koivun of Auburn won his second straight SEC Individual Championship at 12-under with a final round 64 (-6) that featured birdies on five of his last six holes.
The Gamecocks will find out their NCAA Regional destination next Wednesday when the NCAA Selection Show airs live at 1 p.m. (ET) on Golf Channel.
