
Baseball Falls to Kentucky Sunday Afternoon
LEXINGTON – The University of South Carolina baseball team lost the series finale to Kentucky, 11-5, Sunday afternoon (April 27) at Kentucky Proud Park.
Carolina jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third. Will Tippett walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Gavin Braland’s single to right. Kentucky answered back with a solo home run from Luke Lawrence in the bottom of the third.
Kentucky scored five runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Tyler Bell. Carolina came back with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth on Nathan Hall’s RBI single and a fielder’s choice from Dalton Mashore that scored Henry Kaczmar. Kentucky plated a run in the sixth after four Gamecock errors.
KJ Scobey’s RBI single in the top of the eighth made it 7-4 Wildcats. Cayden Gaskin followed with a single up the middle to score a run. Kentucky ended the scoring with four runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Mashore and Gaskin had two hits apiece to lead the Gamecock offense. The loss went to Dylan Eskew, who allowed two runs and three hits with three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Carolina left nine men on base in the game.
- The Gamecocks used seven pitchers in the contest.
- Kentucky won the series by winning two of three on the weekend.
