Gamecocks Fall in Series Opener Against Alabama

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 14/12 South Carolina softball team (37-14, 11-11) fell 13-1 in the series opener against No. 19/14 Alabama (36-18, 12-10) Thursday night (May 1).

Alabama took an early lead with one run in the first before adding 10 in the second.

Carolina earned its lone run in the bottom of the second. Lexi Winters reached with a perfectly-placed double down the left field line. Emma Sellers brought her home with a single through the right side.

The Crimson Tide plated two more in the top of the fourth.

Jori Heard (15-3) took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned, on three hits in 1 1-3 innings.

South Carolina looks to even the series in Game Two at 6 p.m. Friday. Prior to the game the Gamecocks will honor their seven seniors.
