
Gamecocks Cruise Past Kansas in Round One of NCAAs
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The South Carolina women’s tennis team secured a strong win over Kansas with a 4-0 decision on Friday afternoon, highlighted by clutch doubles play and dominant performances from the top of the singles lineup.
The Gamecocks jumped out to an early lead by capturing the doubles point. No. 10 Kaitlyn Carnicella and Sarah Hamner set the tone with a 6-4 win on Court 1 over Kansas’ Heike Janse van Vuuren and Gracie Mulville. On Court 2, Bella Larsson and Olympe Lancelot matched that result with a 6-4 victory against Jasmine Adams and Yerkezhan Arystanbekova to seal the point.
In singles action, No. 15 Sarah Hamner completed a straight-set win over Mulville on Court 1, 6-4, 6-2, extending the Gamecock lead to 2-0. On Court 6, Helena Buchwald followed suit with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Anna Putilina. The clinching point came from No. 47 Kaitlyn Carnicella on Court 2, who defeated Maria Titova 6-3, 6-4 to wrap up the match.
Several competitive matches remained unfinished, including a tight battle between Kyoka Kubo and Olympe Lancelot on Court 3, where Kubo narrowly led 6-3, 5-5. On Court 4, Janse van Vuuren held a slight edge over Misa Malkin at 6-2, 6-7 (2), 1-0. Jasmine Adams also had a lead over Bella Larsson Bergkvist on Court 5, 7-6 (5), 3-3.
With the win, the Gamecocks advance to round two of the NCAA Tournament set to face the winner of UNC and VCU on Sat., May 3.
