Baseball Falls to No. 8 Auburn Thursday Night

AUBURN – The University of South Carolina baseball team fell to No. 8 Auburn, 24-2, Thursday night (May 8) at Plainsman Park.

The Gamecocks scored a run in the first as Nathan Hall brought in Blake Jackson with his 13th double of the season. Auburn answered with five runs in the second. Lucas Steele led off the frame with a home run to right. Deric Fabian and Chris Rembert had back-to-back doubles, bringing in three runs and Ike Irish singled to right for the fifth run of the frame.

Auburn scored seven runs in the third, which included a pair of home runs. Irish’s three-run home run in the fourth made it 15-1. The Tigers added nine runs in the fifth. Jase Woita hit his sixth home run of the season in the top of the sixth.

Brandon Stone took the loss for Carolina, allowing eight runs in two-plus innings. Jackson reached base twice in the contest.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • Woita is now third on the team in home run after hitting his sixth of the season in the sixth inning.
  • Hall has 20 extra-base hits on the season.
  • Auburn had 20 hits on the day.
