Gamecocks Face No. 5 Stanford in Super Regionals Friday

PALO ALTO, Calif. – The No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis team continues its 2025 NCAA Championship run Friday, May 9 on the West Coast in the Super Regionals round. The Gamecocks are slated to face ACC Champion Stanford for a 3:00 p.m. ET match at the Taube Pavilion at the Arrillaga Tennis Center.

Gamecock Notables

  • Records: 21-7 (overall), 11-3 (SEC), 16-2 (home), 4-4 (away), 1-1 (neutral)
  • The Gamecocks booked their fifth consecutive trip to Super Regionals last weekend after winning the NCAA Columbia Regional. Their path to the title included a 4-0 sweep over VCU and 4-3 takedown of No. 20 Florida State.
  • Sean Daryabeigi and Max Stenzer went 2-0 in doubles, winning their matches against both opponents. In singles, Connor Thomson and Atakan Karahan picked up victories against both the Rams and Seminoles.
  • Five Gamecocks currently hold ITA rankings. Thomson moved to a 14-4 record in singles and is amongst the top players in the NCAA at No. 18. Daryabeigi is No. 112 with a 27-10 standing, the most singles wins on the team.
  • In doubles, Thomson and Lucas da Silva have been ranked No. 3 for since April 15, currently holding a 11-6 record. Karahan and Jelani Sarr are No. 56, going into tomorrow’s match 14-8.

Scouting the Cardinal

  • Records: 24-5 (overall), 10-3 (ACC), 11-0 (home), 7-3 (away), 6-2 (neutral)
  • Stanford won the 2025 ACC Championship in its first season in the conference, taking down then-No. 6 Virginia 4-2 in a comeback win after dropping the doubles point. The Cardinal’s path to clinching the title also included wins over then-No .17 Florida State (4-3) and then-No. 19 Duke (4-2).
  • The Cardinal reached the Super Regional following two shutout wins. In the first round they defeated No. 62 New Mexico 4-0 before sweeping No. 25 Pepperdine 4-0.
  • Stanford has three ranked players in singles led by No. 7 Samir Banerjee who is 13-7. Henry Von Der Schulenburg is tabbed at No. 73 with a 19-4 standing while Max Basing rounds out the singles rankings at No. 101.
  • Stanford has a group of three ranked in doubles as well, two of which sit back-to-back. Kyle Kang and Schulenburg are No. 47 followed by Banerjee and Alexander Razeghi at No. 48. Nicholas Godsick and Hudson Rivera are No. 70.

Series History

  • The Gamecocks and Cardinal’s series history is brief as the two programs have only met six times, but the first matchup dates to 1978.
  • Stanford leads the all-time series record 4-2.
  • South Carolina has won the last two matches which took place in 2015 and 2022.
