Gamecocks Fall to Stanford in NCAA Super Regional Match
PALO ALTO, Calif – The No. 13 South Carolina men’s tennis team’s 2024-25 campaign came to a close in the NCAA Super Regional Round on Friday afternoon in Palo Alto, California. The Gamecocks suffered a 4-0 loss to No. 5 Stanford to conclude a historic season.
The Gamecocks attempted to set the tone early in doubles, taking 1-0 leads nearly simultaneously on all three courts. The Cardinal then flipped the script, taking the lead from all three positions. South Carolina battled hard throughout the middle of the matches, as all three pairs kept the score within one game.
Stanford took the first doubles match, as No. 47 Kyle Kang and Henry von der Schulenburg defeated No. 56 Atakan Karahan and Jelani Sarr 6-4. Sean Daryabegi and Max Stenzer were able to regain the lead from the No. 3 position over No. 48 Samir Banerjee and Alex Razeghi, moving to 6-5 moments before No. 3 Connor Thomson and Lucas da Silva fell to No. 70 Nico Godsick and Hudson Rivera 6-4 which provided Stanford with an early edge.
The Cardinal carried their momentum into singles, claiming first-set victories on all six courts. South Carolina showed signs of a comeback, with Sarr and da Silva gaining leads in their second sets, but Stanford clinched the match with wins on courts 6, 4, and 3 to complete the 4-0 sweep.
