
Baseball Hosts LSU to End Regular Season
FOR STARTERS
- Carolina closes out the regular season this weekend, hosting No. 1 LSU in a three-game SEC series from May 15-17.
- Thursday and Friday’s games will start at 7 p.m. with Saturday’s game beginning at 3 p.m.
- Thursday’s game will be televised on SEC Network with Dave Neal and Jackie Bradley Jr., on the call.
- Friday and Saturday’s game will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
- All three games also will be on the Gamecock Sports Network presented by Learfield with Derek Scott and Stuart Lake on the call.

SCOUTING LSU
- The Tigers won 2-of-3 games against Arkansas this past weekend, winning Friday’s game 5-4 in 10 innings and Saturday’s contest 13-3 in seven frames.
- Freshman Derek Curiel is hitting .352 with 15 doubles and 44 RBI while Jared Jones has 16 home runs.
- Former Gamecock Michael Braswell III has played in 49 games and has 14 RBI.
- On the mound, Anthony Eyanson is 8-2 with a 2.91 ERA and 116 strikeouts in 74.1 innings pitched.
- Jay Johnson is in his fourth season at LSU. He guided the Tigers to the 2023 national championship.
SERIES VS. LSU
- LSU has a 44-32-1 series advantage on Carolina heading into Thursday’s game.
- Carolina is 14-18 against LSU in Columbia.
- The two teams met in the SEC Tournament twice last season. LSU won a pair of one-run games. Cole Messina had six RBI in the 11-10 game on May 23.
- The two teams last met in Columbia in 2023. The rain-shortened series was split as Carolina won 13-5 in the first game and fell 8-7 in game two.
- Ethan Petry had eight RBI in the first game of 2023, including a home run off Paul Skenes and a grand slam.
CAROLINA CELEBRATES SENIOR DAY ON FRIDAY
- Prior to Friday’s game vs. LSU, the Gamecock baseball program will honor the 10 seniors on Senior Night.
- Matthew Becker, Jordan Carrion, Dylan Eskew, Blake Jackson, Caleb Jones, Kennedy Jones, Roman Kimball, Talmadge LeCroy, Dalton Mashore and Evan Stone will be recognized while eight more managers, analytics, bullpen catchers and creative media seniors will be honored on field.
GAMECOCKS WIN IN THE MIDWEEK
- Carolina defeated Winthrop, 6-5, on May 13.
- It improved the Gamecocks’ midweek record to 13-1 on the year.
- The only loss in the midweek was against current No. 4 team in the country North Carolina.
- The Gamecocks are 22-0 against Quad 2, 3 and 4 teams this season.
KAZ, WOITA GETTING HOT IN SEC PLAY
- Henry Kaczmar and Jase Woita are leading the team in average in conference games this season.
- Woita had five hits in the Auburn series, including his fifth home run on May 8, and is now hitting .333 with three home runs and eight RBI in SEC games.
- Kaczmar homered and had four hits in the three games and has a .326 average in the 27 conference games with four home runs and 15 RBI.
FROSH AT THE CORNERS
- Freshmen KJ Scobey and Beau Hollins are manning the corners for Carolina this season.
- Scobey has played in 52 games this season and has seven home runs and 23 RBI.
- Scobey homered for the seventh time this season in a 6-5 win over Winthrop May 13.
- Hollins gave Carolina a 6-5 lead over Winthrop with his three-run double in the eighth.
- Hollins has four hits in a game three times this season, including May 9 at Auburn.
- The duo is joined by fellow freshman Gavin Braland, who had four hits and two RBI in the Kentucky series.
PETRY SHOOTS UP CAREER HOME RUN LIST
- Junior Ethan Petry will enter the LSU series with 54 home runs at Carolina, which has him in second place on the all-time home run list.
- The Land O’ Lakes, Fla., native had 23 home runs in his freshman season in 2023, then followed that up with 21 his sophomore season.
- Petry has been named to the preseason All-America second team by both D1 Baseball and Perfect Game, the third team by the NCBWA, was named to the Preseason All-SEC first team and is on the Golden Spikes Award Watch List.
- Last season, Petry hit .306 with 21 home runs and 53 RBI while leading the team with 51 walks. He was named to the All-Raleigh Regional team.
- Petry is eight home runs away from tying Justin Smoak (2006-08) for the all-time mark.
- Petry had a solo home run in the third inning in the 8-7 loss at Texas A&M on April 10.
- The junior is hitting .321 with 10 doubles, a triple, 10 home runs and 34 RBI.
