
Galitsky Named to WGCA Freshman of the Year Watch List

Standout mid-year enrollee one of four players on prestigious list for National Freshman of the Year Award
CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Standout mid-year enrollee Eila Galitsky, a First Team All-SEC selection and the SEC Co-Freshman of the Year, was named one of four players to the Division I WGCA Freshman of the Year Watch List the organization announced on Thursday.
Galitsky, a native of Chaing Mai, Thailand, has played in five stroke play tournaments this spring for the No. 3 Gamecocks, helping the team to a trio of wins. She’s finished in the top-20 four times with three top-five finishes including a win in just her second collegiate start at the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 16-18).
Galitsky, who is ranked No. 19 in the Clippd Player Rankings and No. 17 in the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings, ranks second on the team with a 71.07 scoring average. Six of her eight rounds of par or better have been scores in the 60s this spring. She’s also 6-0 in match play.
Galitsky finished T-5th to lead the team at the SEC Championship (April 14-16) in stroke play. She also went 3-0 in her matches to help the Gamecocks to the program’s second ever SEC Title. She finished T-4th at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional (May 5-7) helping the team to victory again as Carolina claimed its sixth NCAA Regional Championship in 18 seasons under head coach Kalen Anderson.
The winner of the award will be named after the upcoming NCAA Championship (May 16-21), which begins tomorrow at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, Calif. The Gamecocks will be paired with top-ranked Stanford and No. 2 Arkansas the first 36 holes teeing off late-early. Carolina gets underway tomorrow at 2:50 p.m. (ET) with live scoring available via Clippd.
