
Sam Gress Drafted by the Florida Vibe of the Fastpitch United Pro Series
BRADENTON, Fla. – South Carolina softball pitcher Sam Gress was drafted by the Florida Vibe of the Fastpitch United Pro Series Tuesday night (May 20).
Gress becomes the fourth South Carolina softball player to be professionally drafted, joining Alana Vawter who was drafted earlier this season by the Blaze of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League, Donnie Gobourne who was drafted in 2023 by the OKC Spark formerly of the Women’s Professional Fastpitch league and Samie Garcia in 2013 by the NY/NJ Comets of the former National Pro Fastpitch league. Vawter played for the Florida Vibe last season.
The right-handed pitching Gress earned her third NFCA All-Region honor earlier this season, having earned second team honors last season and first team honors in 2023 at Charlotte. She was also named to the All-SEC Second Team and the SEC All-Defensive Team. A graduate student, she leads the SEC and is 13th in the nation with five saves. She also leads the team with five complete games. Gress is second on the team with 13 wins, 99 strikeouts, and a 2.93 ERA. On the season, she has 41 appearances over 138 2-3 innings with one shutout.
The Fastpitch United Pro Series is composed of independent professional fastpitch organizations. The professional season features a series of competition at different amateur tournament events, as well a professional team home and away schedule throughout the year around the country.
