Trio of Jumpers Earn Passage to Eugene
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (May 30, 2025) – South Carolina Track & Field men’s team concluded action at the NCAA East Regional on Friday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla. The Gamecocks witnessed a trio of jumpers excel and secure spots into the NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Theo Mudzengerere punched his second trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championship of his career, including his first as a Gamecock. The All-American triple jumper needed just one attempt as he set a new personal best with a jump of 16.38m (53-9), taking the top spot in the NCAA East Regional. Mudzengerere improved on his second place standing in program history as he now heads to Eugene with the fourth best mark in the NCAA this season.
Channing Ferguson and Nate Figgers each secured their place in the NCAA Outdoor Championship high jump as they both cleared 2.15m (7-0.5). Ferguson, having punched his ticket in the long jump on Wednesday, will look to earn All-American status in both the high jump and long jump for the second consecutive season. His clearance of 2.15m set a new season-best mark for the veteran jumper. Figgers joins him in the automatic qualifying list and will be making the trek to the NCAA Outdoor Championship for the first time in his collegiate career.
Joining the trio in Oregon, and representing the Gamecock men on the national stage, will be CJ Licata and Dylan Targgart. The veteran throwers punched their tickets yesterday afternoon in the men’s shot put.
The Gamecocks will close out the women’s competition in the NCAA East Regional tomorrow with nine events on the docket. Cameran Gist (triple jump) and Cheyla Scott (high jump) will kick things off for the Gamecocks at 2:30 p.m. with the night concluding with the women’s 4x400m relay.
