Thomson Named CSC Academic All-American
AUSTIN, Texas – Connor Thomson of the South Carolina men’s tennis team was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All- America® Second Team, announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Thomson is one of 18 DI student athletes to be named a 2024-25 CSC Academic All-American – one of seven to be on the second team and one of six SEC athletes selected.
Thomson, a graduate of South Carolina’s master’s program in sport and entertainment management, is one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history. He finished his undergraduate career with a 3.726 GPA and earned a 3.833 GPA in graduate school. This marks his second CSC Academic All-American honor, having first received the recognition in 2023. Throughout his time in Columbia, Thomson compiled an impressive list of athletic and academic accolades, including five SEC Academic Honor Roll selections, four ITA Scholar-Athlete honors, SEC All-Newcomer Team, two SEC Player of the Week awards, three All-SEC First Team selections, one All-SEC Second Team selection, five NCAA Individual Championship appearances, and All-America recognition twice in doubles and singles.
This season, Thomson became the winningest player in South Carolina men’s tennis history, surpassing 200 career victories in singles and doubles combined. The Scotland native posted a 14-4 singles record in dual matches, competing from the top two positions in the lineup. He notched seven wins over nationally ranked opponents, highlighted by a victory over the No. 14-ranked player. In doubles, he climbed as high as No. 3 in the ITA rankings with partner Lucas da Silva. The duo went 11-7 from the No. 1 spot and opened conference play with an eight-match win streak. In singles, Thomson also reached a season-high ITA ranking of No. 17.
Thomson was one of two Gamecocks to be named to the CSC Academic All-District Team last month, alongside Jelani Sarr. He is the fourth South Carolina men’s tennis athlete to be tabbed a CSC All-American.
Earlier this week, Thomson qualified for the ATP Next Gen Accelerator Program after earning a top 20 ITA ranking in singles. This program provides collegiate athletes a chance to play in the singles main draw of Challenger 50 and 75 events.
