Hamner Named Carolina Region ITA Senior Player of the Year

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Recent graduate of the South Carolina women’s tennis team Sarah Hamner has been selected as an ITA Division I Regional Award winner for the 2024-25 college tennis season, announced by the organization on Tuesday. Hamner was named Senior Player of the Year for the Carolina region, making her the third Gamecock in program history to earn this honor and first since 2019.

Hamner is now in contention for an ITA National Award, which will be announced this Thursday.

The Colorado native finished the 2024-25 slate with a 19-10 overall record, tied for the most singles wins on the team this season. She went 10-7 against nationally ranked opponents, all from the No. 1 position. Her most impressive takedown was over the top ranked singles player in the NCAA at the time, Dasha Vidmanova of Georgia, where she defeated the Bulldog in a dramatic three set comeback. Hamner excelled in doubles with partner Kaitlyn Carnicella as well, posting a 12-8 record from the top of the lineup and tallying eight ranked wins. In the national rankings, Hamner consistently held onto a top 30 spot for singles and doubles, reaching a high of No. 13 in singles and No. 7 in doubles. After claiming the singles title at the ITA East Sectional Championship in the fall, she qualified for her fourth consecutive NCAA Individual Championship where she advanced to the round of 32.

Hamner’s post season awards include CSC Academic All-District, CSC Academic All-America and ITA All-American in singles and doubles. She was also selected to play doubles with Carnicella at the USTA U.S. Open Wild Card tournament, competing for a chance to play in the U.S. Open. The event takes place next week, June 16-18 in Orlando, Florida.
